How I Got Interested in the Civil War
I became interested in the “War Between the States” in 1994 after seeing the movie Gettysburg. My single claim to fame in the Civil War arena is about as noteworthy as my single claim to running fame: I am the author of a website about a relatively obscure Confederate general from Virginia named A.P. Hill. The site is titled And Then A.P. Hill Came Up. I’ve been working on it for, oh, about ten years.
I consider myself an amateur Civil War historian. I don’t get paid and I am unpublished beyond the web. I do think I bring a somewhat unique perspective to the study of the Civil War, however. First, I am female (military history attracts mainly men) and second, I am pretty young. I started working on my A.P. Hill website when I was just 16.
My Civil War websites include:
I also enjoy photography very much, including taking pictures of the Gettysburg battlefield (where I always seem to end up). Some of my favorite pictures include:
I also have some really good shots of a monarch butterfly I spied while running.
