121st Pennsylvania Infantry
The 121st Pennsylvania Infantry was raised from Philadelphia and Venango County in the fall of 1862.
Its commander at Gettysburg was Maj. Alexander Biddle (1819-1899) and his cousin Col. Chapman Biddle (1822-1880), a Philadelphia lawyer. Chapman Biddle was slightly wounded on July 1.
The monument to the 121st Pennsylvania is located along Reynolds Avenue where the regiment “occupied this position” on the “extreme left of the Union line.” The monument features a carved draped flag, an exploding artillery shell, and the full circle badge of the Union First Corps. A bronze kepi and sword complete the monument.
