For the WordPress Experts

> Posted 06 May 07 in Administrative

For any WordPress experts out there … I figured out that the database table I ran “The Learned Foot” blog from is still in tact and was not deleted like I previously thought (what I accidentally deleted was a subdomain name, a long story, but the actual database tables themselves were not stored there). Anyway, to make a long story short, is there a way to download the database table and import the old posts to my new blog?

Edited to add: I figured out how to download the database.  What I think I am going to do is selectively upload old posts that I think are worth having at the new blog. I think I found instructions for how to do that, so I am good to go.

Rebuilding my blog

> Posted 05 May 07 in Administrative

As those of you who regularly read The Learned Foot know, I accidentally crashed the database table for the site beyond repair.  Even with my bit of tech saavy, I couldn’t figure out how to bring the site back to life, so I decided to instead start fresh — with this blog, titled Draw the Sword and Throw Away the Scabbard.

I have also decided to give the blog a much tighter focus: there will be three topics discussed.  First, Civil War history.  I maintain a rather large website on Civil War General A.P. Hill.  My interests are mostly eastern theater, though they may stray.

The second topic, will, of course, be running.  More than anything, The Learned Foot was a blog about running.  I promise to try and keep up with posting pictures and occasional run reports.

Finally, the blog also will focus on my fight with Hodgkin’s Disease.  I am currently done with 6 out of 16 treatments.  This blog will hopefully serve both as a central page to keep my family updated on what is going on and as a future resource to others diagnosed with Hodgkin’s.

I hope you enjoy the new blog.  If you were on my old blog roll, please comment and I will add you back here.

the new blog

The new blog begins here, at May 1, 2007.  All prior posts were either copied and pasted by hand or imported from the old blog.  This is just the dividing line.

a little about me

> Posted 14 Aug 04 in Administrative

If you’re reading this blog, I guess you’d probably like to know a little about me. Well, here’s “me” in a nutshell.

The Essential Info

  • I am 24 years old.
  • I am female.
  • I am a 3d year law student (which means I am a member of the class of 2005).
  • I’m keeping my blog somewhat anonymous for now, though if you want to find out who I am, it’s not that hard to do. I’m just not going to make it blatantly obvious. And I may change my mind later.

Location

  • I live in Ohio. I was born and grew up here and did my under-grad here. So it made sense to go to school here, though I applied to and was accepted to some better schools. Yes, I have a complex about attending a non-first tier law school.
  • Its cold here 10 months out of the year. Though this summer has made it seem more like it is cold 12 months out of the year. It does snow a lot. And, there is no ocean and Lake Erie is a sad substitute. There is really no surf. So, it is therefore depressing here.
  • But, no, Ohio is not all flat and farms. People seem to think Ohio and think of cows or something and corn. We’re not Iowa (nothing against Iowa, actually I prefer cow and corn to people, sprawl, and urbanization). Ohio has some hills and, yes, cities too.

Education

  • I did my under-grad at a small, Ohio liberal arts school. Take my word for it, you’ve likely never heard of it.
  • I double-majored in history and philosophy and double-minored in english literature and political science. Which qualified me to either a) go to law school, b) go to graduate school, c) be an educated bum / gadfly a la Socrates.
  • I managed to graduate magna cum laude (how I have no clue).
  • As I mentioned, the law school I go to is located in Ohio.
  • My only law school activity is I am a member of the law review. I am a managing editor, which means I do most of the grunt work after the associates do the sub-citing assignments.

Jobs

  • I am a life-long student. I’ve been in school for twenty years. Literally.
  • I’ve worked as a free-lance (for hire and volunteer) webmaster.
  • I worked in the art history department as an undergrad doing research and filing slides.
  • 1L summer I interned for a month for a municipal court judge.
  • 2L summer I worked as a research assistant to a professor.

Athletics

  • I love surfing. Laird Hamilton is my favorite surfer.
  • I run seven miles nearly every day. I am a running addict. But I do much better in law school when I exercise. Which is why I carve out a generous two hours every single day for my run.
  • I ran track in high school … the 100, 200, and 4×100 relay outside, and the 55 inside. I set a school record in the 55 indoors. I also got four letters.
  • I played soccer for many years and softball for a while too.
  • I like baseball. I follow football, tennis, and horse racing some too. Not really interested in hockey, college sports, or pro basketball. I don’t like golf.

Hobbies

  • I am a huge Civil War buff with a 200 book library on the conflict.
  • I love music. Pearl Jam is my favorite band. I also play saxophone and was even a section leader as a junior and senior in marching band on alto (played tenor in symphonic band).
  • I raise cichlids … I am an amateur aqauculturist and who also collects plecos.
  • I like to travel and visit beaches. Charleston, South Carolina is my favorite city.
  • I love birds and my favorite type is the brown pelican.

Random

  • I wrote my law review note on why professional responsibility rules that restrict attorney criticisms of judges are in violation of the First Amendment. Yes, like most notes, it was boring, but I gave it a good title. And, I am sure it will help me get a job with a judge ……… haha
  • I am politically a Libertarian, though not an extreme Libertarian.
  • My favorite dinner: Grilled Salmon, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Broccoli, Zuchinci, Green Beans, and Hot Cinnamon Apples.

My blog.

I am just starting my third year of law school.  Having seen lots of other law school blogs, I’ve decided to keep one too.
