July 2. Moved with the Division from the Baltimore Pike near Rock Creek late in the day to Little Round Top north of the Wheatfield Road. After sunset formed line to cover the retiring of First and Second Brigades Second Division and supported by Third Brigade Third Division Sixth Corps charged the advancing Confederates and forced them down the Hill and across into the Wheatfield. The Brigade remained at a stone wall in rear of the Wheatfield. Col. C. F Taylor commanding 13th Penna. Reserves fell in the advance.

July 3. Advanced through the Wheatfield into the woods beyond supported by Third Brigade Third Division Sixth Corps and changing front swept southward through the woods west and south of the Wheatfield encountering a portion of Brig. Gen. Benning’s Brigade and capturing about 200 prisoners and the colors of 15th Georgia. The Confederates retired to the crest of the ridge from which they advanced the previous clay. In this movement one 10 pounder Parrott was recovered and about 3,000 small arms were captured from the field.

July 2. Moved to Little Round Top late in the day and went into position on the right of the Wheatfield Road. On the retreat of the troops from the Wheatfield in front after sunset the First Brigade was advanced against the pursuing forces and drove them across Plum Run marsh and beyond the stone wall and into the Wheatfield. The Third Brigade was sent to the left to take possession of Round Top.

July 3. The First Brigade remained in position until about 5 P. M. and then advanced across the Wheatfield and through the woods beyond and on the left capturing many prisoners. The Confederates retired to the crest of the ridge they originally formed on. These positions were held until the close of the battle.

Monument is large, cylindrical granite shaft with a conical top set on a seventeen foot circumference, circular rough hewn base. The shaft has inscriptions and a carved oak-leaf wreath draped at the top. The base has a bronze state coat of arms on the west side. Overall height is 11 feet. Flanking markers are one foot square with apex tops.

What does it honor? It indicates the position held by 5th Pennsylvania Reserves from the night of July 2, 1863 to the close of the battle in which they protected the Federal left.

The granite marker stands on a tiered base, with bronze relief of Pennsylvania State shield on front. The image represents an infantryman pausing beside the grave of a comrade. Monument that has two flanking markers. Flanking markers are 1×1.6 foot with rough edges.

On the front of the monument is a bronze Pennsylvania Seal. On the back of the base is a Maltese Cross. Monument is a cylindrical granite shaft, 10.3 foot in circumference, set on a five foot square, four-course rough hewn base. Overall height is 9.4 foot. The shaft has raised inscription panels on four sides. Flanking markers are apex topped one foot square.

What does it honor? The monument marks the general location of the 1st Pennsylvania Reserves on the afternoon of July 2, 1863.

What does it depict? One of two Pennsylvania regimentals cast entirely of bronze (the other belongs to the 56th Pennsylvania). The monument cost $3,000.00. Atop a tall bronze base stands a bronze figure of a Civil War soldier walking with his rifle held in his proper right hand. Inscriptions in raised letters appear on panels around the sides of the bronze base. At the foot of the bronze base is a large stone boulder. Flanking markers are granite, flat topped, one foot square with inscription on the north faces.

What does it honor? It is located near the base of Big Round Top in the position taken by the 10th Pennsylvania Reserve at five o’clock on July 2, 1863.
