The 3rd Corps, 1st Division, 3rd Brigade was also known as De Trobriand’s Brigade. During the battle of Gettysburg, it served as a member of Birney’s Division in the Third Corps, Army of the Potomac. About the Main Monument When was it dedicated? Erected circa 1912. What is it made out of? Foundation: Concrete. Monument: Polished smooth sea-green granite. Plaque: Bronze. What size is it? 36′ by 36′ base. Weight: 300 Pounds. Height 5’4″. Tablet measures 4 feet by 3 feet 8 inches. Who made it? Albert Russell & Sons Co. of Newburyport, Massachusetts. Erected by the United States War Department. What does it depict? Monolith consisting of polished smooth sea-green granite pedestal with a square base. The Fortieth New York Infantry is honored by a monument and an inscribed boulder at Gettysburg. About the Main Monument When was it dedicated? July 2, 1888. What is it made out of? Monument: granite with bronze adornment; Base: granite. What size is it? Overall: approx. 7 ft. 1 in. x 4 ft. x 7 ft. 2 in. Who made it? Barr, R. D., sculptor. Smith Granite Company, fabricator. What does it depict? Monument comprised of a granite soldier “hidden” behind rock, with the rifle in hand at his side. The soldier is dressed in uniform. The Third Michigan Infantry is honored by a monument at Gettysburg. About the Main Monument When was it dedicated? June 12, 1889. What is it made out of? Monument: granite with bronze adornment. What size is it? 11 ft. 10 in. x 6 ft. x 4 ft. 7 in. Who made it? Mitchell Granite Company, fabricator. Designed and sculpted by Lorado Taft. What does it depict? Granite monument with relief of two soldiers on front. Both soldiers are dressed in uniform. One is kneeling, holding a rifle with both hands. The other stands behind him in a wooded scene.
