<p class="intro">The <em><strong>11th Corps, 3rd Division, 2nd Brigade</strong></em> was also known as <em><strong>Kryzanowski&#8217;s Brigade</strong></em>. <p><strong>Who made it?</strong> Albert Russell &#038; Sons Co. of Newburyport, Massachusetts.  Erected by the United States War Department.</p>
<p><strong>What does it depict?</strong>  Monolith consisting of polished smooth sea-green granite pedestal with a square base.   Base tapers to a smaller dimension at the tablet.  On each pedestal is mounted a bronze inscription tablet describing the movements and actions of the unit.</p>
<p><strong>What does it honor?</strong>  One of 74 Union brigade monuments erected at Gettysburg by the United States War Department to describe the movements and itinerary of each Union brigade of the Army of the Potomac. The monuments were designed by E.B. Cope.  Many of the inscription tablets were made of bronze melted down from Civil War cannons.</p>

<p>July 1. Arrived about 1 P. M. marched through the town to the front and took position on the line of the Corps on right of First Brigade and was engaged with Brig. Gen. Doles’s Brigade Major General Rodes’s Division and other forces for more than two hours. About 4 P. M. the Corps having been flanked and forced back by superior numbers it retired through the town to Cemetery Hill and took position behind stone walls. Skirmishers were actively engaged in houses from three to five hundred yards in front.</p>
<p>July 2. In same position until between 8 and 9 P. M. when a fierce attack on East Cemetery Hill was made by Brig. Gen. Hays’s Brigade and Battery I 1st New York was momentarily captured but the 58th and 119th New York were hastened to its support and assisted in its recapture and in repelling the attack.</p>
<p>July 3. Not engaged beyond skirmishing but subjected to a heavy artillery fire.</p>
<p>July 4. The 119th New York and the 26th Wisconsin made a reconnaissance going about two miles to the east of the town and captured many stragglers.</p>
<p>Casualties Killed 12 Officers 63 Men Wounded 36 Officers 352 Men Captured or Missing 5 Officers 201 Men Total 669</p>

<p><STRONG>Commander:</STRONG> Colonel Wladimir Krzyzanowski (July 8, 1824 – January 31, 1887) was a Polish military leader and a brigade commander in the Union Army during the American Civil War. In the July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg Krzyz.anowski helped repel an evening assault by the famed Louisiana Tigers on the Union defenses atop East Cemetery Hill.</p>

Erected by the State of Ohio, this monument is one of twenty honoring Ohio troops who participated in the Gettysburg campaign. Flanking markers are 1.4 foot square. </p>
<p><strong>What does it honor?</strong>  It marks the location occupied by the 82nd Ohio Infantry on July 1, 1863 while in support of Dilger’s Ohio Battery I. Left Flank and Right Flank markers show location of advance line before retreating before heavier forces. </p>
<p><strong>How is it inscribed?</strong>  Arriving from Emmittsburg at Noon July 1, 1863. Moved rapidly to the support of Dilger&#8217;s Battery near the Carlisle Road. At 3 p.m. changed front to the right and advanced to a position 125 yards in front of this monument where exposed both front and flank to a severe fire. It engaged the enemy then approaching from York. After an obstinate struggle the regiment being outflanked on both sides, withdrew to Cemetery Hill where it remained until the close of the battle.</p>

<p class="intro"><img src="http://www.drawthesword.goellnitz.org/images/corps/11-3.png" alt="" align="left" width="85" class="alignleft" />The <em><strong>119th New York Infantry</strong></em> served as a member of <a href="http://www.drawthesword.goellnitz.org/tag/kryzanowski">Kryzanowski&#8217;s Brigade</a> in <a href="http://www.drawthesword.goellnitz.org/tag/schurz/">Schurz&#8217;s Division</a> of the <a href=""http://www.drawthesword.goellnitz.org/tag/xi-corps/">Elventh Corps</a>, Army of the Potomac.</p>
<p><STRONG>Commander:</STRONG> Col. John T. Lockman (1834-1912).  Law student in New York City.  Wounded on July 1.  Lt. Col. Edward F. Lloyd (1836-1864) took command from the wounded Lockman.  Worked for a publishing firm in New York City.  He was killed at Resaca and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.</p>
